It's difficult to sell a home these days. But you can give your residence a better chance at moving by installing the proper landscaping to sell your home.

Remember, when potential buyers pull up to your home, they don't see that remodeled kitchen or updated master bathroom. The first thing they see is your home's exterior. And if they're looking at weed filled front gardens or a lawn dotted with dandelions, these buyers will form a negative first impression.

When selling a home, sometimes that first impression can scuttle the chances of receiving an offer. That's why it's so important to properly landscape to sell your home.

The first step is to make sure the landscaping you already have is well-maintained. This means mowing the lawn more often, and carefully edging sidewalks and pathways.

You should also carefully weed your gardens. Make sure to eliminate any weeds, too, which are poking up through cracks in your driveway or sidewalk.

Next prune those overgrown trees, bushes and flower beds. An overgrown garden detracts from a home's curb appeal. Buyers see them and often wonder if you've been taking shortcuts on other aspects of home maintenance, too.

Once you have your existing landscaping looking its best, it's time to add some color to your home's exterior. Perennials are hardy and easy to keep healthy. Buy some of these to plant in front flower beds or backyard areas that seem a bit dull and uninviting now.

If the front of your house boasts little other than a plain lawn, you might want to purchase one or two large bushes. These might not be cheap, but well-placed shrubbery can transform a home's exterior from drab to vibrant.

Once your new plants are in place, make sure to take care of them. Don't over water. This can be just as harmful to plants as not giving them enough water. Keep up with the weeding, too. Left unchecked, weeds can quickly take over a flower bed or backyard garden.

Remember, too, that curb appeal is more than just plants, bushes and a green front lawn. Make sure to sweep your porch and sidewalks before a home showing. Pick up any litter that may have accumulated in your flower beds. Don't leave children's toys or bicycles piled up on your front lawn or scattered across your backyard.

You'll struggle to sell your house if it's one that potential buyers quickly drive by. Give them a reason to slow down. Give them a reason to think that this house might be the perfect one for them. You can do it, with the proper landscaping to sell your home.
