There are many different methods you can employ for dealing with stress. However, if it is something you experience on a day to day basis through your job or other issues then perhaps you need to take a step back and look at things from a larger viewpoint.
The first thing you may want to tackle is your diet. Too many processed foods enter our bodies these days and for many we believe that the rush of modern life prevents us from cooking and preparing proper meals. However, if you are clever then you can prepare fresh food in about 30 minutes and leave yourself with some leftovers that you can use again the next day. The activity you carry out in the kitchen will also provide some light exercise for the body. Compare it to those who perhaps come home and stick a processed meal in the microwave and simply sit on the sofa until the meal is ready.
Make sure you get a good nights sleep. Your bedroom should be comfortable and quiet. It should not be too warm such that it would cause you to wake up in the middle of the night sweating or too cold that it keeps your body awake. Avoid caffeine or fizzy drinks close to bedtime and activities that might make your brain too active. If you find that you do focus too much on thinking of the days activities or upcoming events then you may want to try playing a music CD at low volume to help take your mind off things. Many people will be familiar with this when they are tired - they fall asleep in front of the TV but when they wake up and turn the TV off they find they can't get back to sleep again because their mind is no longer occupied with what was on the TV.
Getting more exercise helps the body cope with stress both short and long term. It doesn't mean you need to go to the gym and workout for hours. Try to work in a half hour of brisk walking everyday in the fresh air. Concentrate on your breathing and get plenty of air into your lungs. Yoga can also be a great way of dealing with stress and can be carried out in the comfort of your own home.
If you live alone then you may find it more difficult to cope with stress. Some people find that pets can help you in these situations. With a pet your mind is both occupied on looking after them and you also have someone else who needs your help providing you with a little empowerment. You should only get a pet though if you are certain you can look after it properly. Choose a pet to suit your lifestyle. If a dog is a suitable choice then it will also help you get that extra half hour of brisk exercise mentioned in the paragraph above.
