With the discovery of the light bulb, there came a new dawn in the way we perceive and see the world around us. Lighting is the artificial means by which we illuminate our surroundings. Progressively, lighting was used to enhance the look and ambience of a room. Different types of lighting methods and devices came into use which allowed man to create different settings and moods within a room at the flick of a switch. Depending on the requirement of a particular room setting, different light fixtures can be used to achieve different effects.
Sconce lights are fixtures affixed to a wall in such a way that it uses only the wall for support, and the light is usually directed upwards. It does not have a base on the ground. This type of lighting was used as a torch light but now has come to include electric light sources as well. The wall scones are often used in hallways or corridors to provide both lighting and a point of interest in a long corridor. The scone lights should be at three fourth distance on the wall as measured from the floor in order to provide the maximum light and look to the corridor.
A chandelier is a ceiling-mounted light fixture which is branched with two or more arms bearing lights. They are used more as a decorative form of lighting in large rooms or ballrooms.
