The longevity of diesel engines is attributed to the diesel oil itself. Because diesel fuel is heavier and thicker than gasoline it is self lubricating. Thus, an engine running on diesel fuel is better maintained by the fuel and will last longer with proper maintenance. Keeping an engine running may on occasion require the replacement of some parts.
