Mario Kart Wii is the latest addition to the Mario Kart franchise. The Mario Kart games are very popular among fans and each installment quickly becomes a must own game for the console. With this highly anticipated sequel many fans are wondering if the latest Mario Kart game will reach such a title.

The Mario Kart formula is quite simple but still works. Anyone who has played any Mario Kart game in the past will be able to recognize the small quirks and jump right in and play. Nintendo knows this and rather instead of changing the formula they offer new ways to enjoy the classic game play. The additions include new levels, new characters, new weapons, different control variations and even new a new vehicle the motorcycle.

One of the biggest complaints from the previous Mario Kart game was the lack of levels. In this installment there are 32 racing courses in total. Half the courses are brand new and the other half is ported from the previous installments. The game offers a wide variety of courses each unique in its own way.

The Nintendo franchise has many characters at their disposal. In trying to please the fans Mario Kart Wii includes 25 playable characters. Everyone will surely find their favorite character to play as.

One of the biggest game play elements in any Mario Kart game has been the utilization of weapons. All the weapons from past Mario Kart games are present as well as a few new ones. One of the more notable entries is the mega mushroom. In true Mario fashion the mega mushroom will make your character increase in size. In this super large state any character you ram into will be crushed flat.

Gamers should not fear the many different control schemes available on Mario Kart Wii. They all work well. Interestingly the game comes with a steering wheel adapter. You snap your Wii mote inside it and you are able to realistically control your characters motion. Other control schemes include using the classic controller and the GameCube controller.

One of the most unique additions is the inclusion of the motorcycle. The motorcycle has its own quirks as well. The motorcycle is faster than most of the karts but it is weaker. As other players (in karts) ram into you the motorcycle has a tendency to swerve out of control. When utilizing the motorcycles ability to perform a wheelie you are very vulnerable to attack because you lose a sense of control.

Fans of the classic and new comers alike will both enjoy this game. It offers a wide variation of game play mechanic which work well with the classic Mario Kart formula.
